To boldly go...

Postby Anton Bitel » January 8th, 2010, 17:05

Would it please be possible to adjust the settings on this forum so that text written in bold looks, well, bold (or at least bolder).
Cheers

Hi Anton,

It looks pretty bold too me? Are you seeing something different to the screenshot below?

Cheers Alex
yeah, I can barely tell the difference between bold and normal on this forum (it's slightly clearer in the screenshot) - maybe it's just another of the ten million things wrong with my computer...

Odd. Are you using Internet Explorer by any chance?

Hey Alex
I'm using Firefox vers. 3.5.7, on Windows Vista. If you tell me how to do a screenshot, I'll do it - but frankly, as long as other people can see the difference clearly, I'm no longer so bothered.

it's fine here too. (win 7 + firefox 3.5.7) anton, try disabling "ClearType" in your Windows settings. just search it with your desktop search.

cheers for the tip, mortal
That definitely makes the bold clearer, but given the associated loss of quality in general text legibility, I think I'll just stick with invisible bold...

after disabling cleartype, i was asked to choose one out of 6 screens (4times) which, in my opinion, is the best to read. did you have the option to do this in vista too?

Nope, as far as I can see Vista doesn't do this.
Frankly I'm a bit embarrassed - I was trying to air something that I had thought was a universal problem, but which turns out just to be my own. In the grand scheme of things (as they say), it's really no biggie (and all my bad).
Thanks again for all your help.
